LEFT COAST CRIME 2012 WRITERS' WORKSHOP

Left Coast Crime 2012 is pleased to announce a workshop for writers, published or not, interested in perfecting their craft. The workshop will be held on Thursday, March 29, 8 AM-5 PM, and will be at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, the home of LCC 2012. The cost for this workshop will be $40 for LCC registrants and $80 for non-LCC registrants.

The workshop will be divided into three sessions:
Jennifer Sawyer Fisher—former editor at Kensington, Penguin, Morrow/Avon and HarperCollins, to such luminaries as Lawrence Block and Lisa Jackson—will teach a session on self-editing. We'll be making prior arrangements to accept pages from a limited number of participants for Jennifer to critique before arrival, then use as examples during the session. If you are interested in submitting pages, this will be done on a first-come, first-served basis. This is a great learning tool, even if your pages are not used. Pages used will be at the instructor's discretion.  Please contact Robin Burcell at rb (at) robinburcell.com if you are interested in submitting pages for possible use during the workshop.
Alexandra Sokoloff, current author, former screenwriter, will teach a session on using screenwriting techniques to enhance your novel-writing. I (LCC co-chair Robin Burcell) have used some of these techniques myself with great results.
As an added bonus, we are inviting the workshop participants who may be interested in self-publishing their own work as e-books to sit in on Elle Lothlorien's panel, "The Nuts and Bolts of E-Publishing." This will include everything from the path to e-publication to preparing your manuscript for e-books, covers and marketing. After The Frog Prince was rejected by nearly 100 agents (often with the response: "I can't sell this"), Elle Lothlorien e-published her novel in July 2011. Four months later, The Frog Prince became an Amazon bestseller. Her follow-up romantic suspense, Sleeping Beauty, became an Amazon bestseller in February 2012. She now has three novels out, including the thriller Virgin, and was able to quit her full-time "day job" in June 2011. Elle is considered a "reluctant expert" on the topic of e-publication.

We hope you'll join us. Space is limited, so sign up early by clicking here to register.
