Volunteering

Volunteers are the backbone of Left Coast Crime. If you’re looking for a way to have fun, meet fellow mystery lovers, and contribute to the Left Coast Crime convention — volunteer! Please check the box on the registration form if you are interested in helping with Left Coast Crime 2019. The Call for Volunteers will go out by email after the panel schedule is posted in February. (You must be registered for the convention to volunteer.) Below are some Volunteer jobs for your consideration. Please let us know if can think of another way you’d like to help!

Pre-Registration Helper
[TUE–WED] Sign up to help place materials in tote bags Tuesday or Wednesday. Out-of-town volunteers could easily perform this job.
Activity Level: Low to Moderate

Registration Desk Captain: Dotty Morefield
Sign up to help Registrar Stan Ulrich manage the registration desk during high use blocks of time. Experience prefered! Out-of-town volunteers could easily perform this job.

Registration Desk Manager
[THUR–SAT] Sign up for a two-hour shift helping Registrar Stan Ulrich manage the registration desk. Experience preferred! Out-of-town volunteers could easily perform this job.
Activity Level: Low to Moderate

Registration Desk Helper
[THUR–FRI morning] Sign up for a two-hour shift handing out registration envelopes and tote bags to arriving attendees. No experience required! Out-of-town volunteers could easily perform this job.

Silent Auction Helper
[WED–SUN] Sign up for a shift helping the Auction Chair set up the Silent Auction room on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, and monitoring the Silent Auction Items thrughout the convention. Responsibilities include keeping an eye on the Silent Auction items and answering questions and making attendees feel welcome and comfortable. Out-of-town volunteers could easily perform this job.
Activity Level: Moderate

Panel Room Volunteer
[THU–SUN] Sign up for a shift managing a panel room. Responsibilities include making sure the hotel staff has picked up trash, holding up signs so the panel moderator knows how much time is left before the end of the program, and escorting the panelists to the signing space after the panel. Written instructions will be provided. Out-of-town volunteers could easily perform this job.

Book Signing Room Captains: Laurie McNab & Craig Kellam
[THU–SUN] Sign up to monitor the book-signing room. Good organizational and management skills are needed. Some pre-conference work available but not required. You will be responsible for overseeing room set-up, collecting signage each day to post, and directing authors, volunteers, and fans. Out-of-town volunteers could easily perform this job.

Book-Signing Room Assistant
[THU–SUN] Sign up for a shift helping the Book Signing Room Captains. Duties include placing signage, greeting and directing authors to their seats, and managing lines to avoid congestion. Out-of-town volunteers could easily perform this job.

Awards Banquet Volunteer Coordinator
[SAT] Take responsibility for organizing the Awards Banquet volunteers placed at the doors and inside to help people find their seats on Saturday. Minimal advance work confirming volunteers by email. Out-of-town volunteers could easily perform this job.

Awards Banquet Volunteers
[SAT] Work with Awards Banquet Coordinator to welcome people at the doors and help them find their seats at the Awards Banquet on Saturday. Out-of-town volunteers could easily perform this job.
