Program spotlightI bet most of you haven’t made your travel plans to New Mexico yet. That’s why I thought I’d better tell you about an extraordinary program at our convention on Sunday morning, March 27. It’s unlikely you’ll ever have the opportunity to be part of this singular and moving moment in history — or anything quite like it – again: “Officer Down” An interview with Tonia Harris In July 2009, Sandoval County Sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Harris was shot in a mountain stakeout gone horrible wrong. Tonia Harris, his widow, will speak publicly for the first time about her husband’s death, the investigation and more. Michael McGarrity will be on hand to interview her. It doesn’t get any more real than this. Until next time, Pari Noskin Taichert, chair It’s warmer than I said!Really. I just got the stats for late March in Santa Fe. Think more along the lines of 60 degrees during the day and 35 or so at night. And while I’m correcting a bit of content from LCC 2011’s first newsletter, let’s get an email address right as well: For nomination/awards questions use this: BigChileAwards@StopYoureKillingMe.com That’s it for now. Cheers, Pari Pari Noskin Taichert, chair NM Question of the DayWhere was the movie “The Milagro Beanfield War” filmed? And a personal discussion question: Have you seen the movie or read the book? BTW: If anyone watched last week’s GREAT FOOD TRUCK RACE on The Food Network, it was filmed in Santa Fe –some scenes in the Plaza actually show our convention hotel, La Fonda, in the background. You can find Episode 2 online, so I won’t link here. But the chill in the air? Think Santa Fe in late March. cheers, chair, LCC Santa Fe NM Quiz Question #1I’ve been writing this blog for awhile and don’t have a sense whether people are reading it or not. I do know that it’ll become more vital as we get closer to the convention. For it to be really effective, the conversation needs to start now. Heck, we’ve only got a little more than six months before this baby hits the runway. Why not test your NM knowledge? We’ll both learn something in the process and might have fun while we do it. I hope to ask a different question every day. That’ll be, um, let me get my caluculator here . . . around 180 or so. Should be doable. Here’s the first one: What’s the difference between “adobe” and “abode?” cheers, Facebook PageI’m amused. Very few comments so far — and NO suggestions. I guess when you blog, you’ve got to expect that in the beginning. But I did want to mention that we now have a Facebook page under the name: The Big Chile. I’m hoping, eventually, to link this blog with that one and that way more people will get the info more easily, more naturally, than having to come to this site. Check out The Big Chile. Become a “fan.” Tell all your friends! Thanks, Early Bird Registration ProblemsHi all, Apparently some people had difficulties with our online registration program last weekend during LCC Los Angeles. If you didn’t receive a receipt/confirmation once you registered, please let us know and we’ll check to make sure you’re on our list and are up to date. This is important. Please do it today. We’re more than willing to make things right for the next few days in order for you to get the Early Bird price. Cheers, New Mexico Weather 1I received an email from someone interested in attending LCC Santa Fe the other day. She wanted to know if we had snow in March. For her, snow was a deal-breaker. I honestly didn’t know how to answer her. Thursday morning, there were two inches of snow on my car. By noon, it was 50 degrees. Welcome to NM in March. Today, it was 65. All the daffodils and crocuses are blooming. I’ve seen mini irises, forsythia, hyacinth . . . But tomorrow we could be in a deep freeze. The lesson here is to really watch the weather reports a week before the convention. Santa Fe is 1000 feet higher than ABQ and tends to have slightly more winter-like weather longer than we do. But there are no guarantees. cheers, |
